Neander-Brawl (Godot Wild Jam #42) | 2D Animation

The game was made within a 9-day period during the Godot Wild Jam #42.
~
Worked on caveman art and animation, in addition to coding, UI, and audio, for Neander-Brawl: https://niemi-bros.itch.io/neander-brawl. The game uses Godot v3's 2D Skeletal system and IKs for the wind up and swing mechanic.
~
The characters were rigged and animated right in Godot. I painted the character parts (Head, Torso, Limbs) and club sprites in GIMP.

Animations in action!

Players can move left and right, crouch, jump, wind up, and swing. Crouching increases lean backwards. Leaning with movement allows dodging certain attacks.

Club lights up red when it is active.

The Arm is setup with IK and uses its own AnimationPlayer. Hits are detected from the club's Area2D hitting the Head's Rigidbody2D.

Player to player and player ground collisions use the CollisionShape of the KinematicBody2D.

Game screenshot showing some additional textures I worked on: UI, facial expressions on round finish (Happy and sad), and the "lump on the head," which pulsates red.
